While special emphasis is placed on the importance of the fourth “T,” this workshop will also provide practical tools for staff and volunteers to seek volunteers primarily through personal invitation. It is often helpful to supplement the personal approach by posting volunteer ministry opportunities in the church bulletin. However, in order to reinforce a “Spirituality of Giving,” special consideration must be given to the language used. Reporting periodically to the entire faith community is an integral aspect of stewardship. This workshop will provide sample scripts, templates, and suggestions for posting volunteer opportunities, helping volunteers discern the appropriate ministry and/or service, and reporting Time, Talent, and Treasure in equally effective ways. Workshop participants will also receive ideas to emphasize a “Spirituality of Giving” in Religious Education Programs, Youth Ministry, and Confirmation Prep Programs.

This workshop starts at the very beginning. Why stewardship? What are we hoping to accomplish? How do we begin? How do we select an effective Stewardship Coordinator/Director and Committee? Sample role descriptions and a timeline for implementation of Stewardship in your church will be provided. Participants will receive materials to help educate and spiritually form your faith community in a “spirituality of giving. Staff and volunteer leaders will be offered no-cost ideas and changes which will demonstrate total stewardship in their ministries. Sample Time, Talent, and Treasure inventories, envelopes, cards and follow-up forms, and sermons/homilies for introducing stewardship will also be available. You will receive tools for reporting on stewardship efforts and practical information that has been implemented in both rural and metropolitan churches.
